Authenticate your Sac De Jour

Authentic Sac De Jour

When artistic director Hedi Slimane worked as creative director for YSL, his work was met with mixed reviews. Now the edgy and divisive designer is moving on to Céline, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what happens next. Authentic Sac De Jour

To say Slimane brought change to YSL is an understatement. One of our favourite moments during his time with the brand is the Sac De Jour design, under the rebranded SAINT LAURENT label.

Though the bag has been criticized by some for its similarities to the iconic Hermès Birkin bag, the Saint Laurent design was quickly embraced by an impressive list of fashionistas including Kate Moss, Selma Hayek, Angela Simmons, and Angelina Jolie.

Authentic Sac De JourIt isn’t hard to see why the Sac De Jour has become a go-to work bag for models and mortals alike. The quality construction makes it a cinch to carry daily essentials with confidence, and the accordion sides give fashionistas a little extra room for busy days.

Accept no substitutes- this SAINT LAURENT gem has earned a name for itself among iconic styles. But how do you know yours is the real deal?

Overall construction

Your Sac De Jour should stand upright, and have a clean outline. A pouchy or saggy Sac De Jour is not a Sac De Jour.

Leather goods, synthetic bads.

This goes for any fashion houses that use leather- follow your nose! Acquaint yourself with the scent of leather. If your bag doesn’t have that earthy aroma, it may be synthetic.

Synthetics will smell like glue and plastic, so keep your nose in the know.

How does it feel to the touch? There are some great leather look materials on the market, but nothing feels quite like real leather.

Seams like the real thing

The stitching on your Authentic Sac De Jour should be covered in a light layer of glossy wax. If your seams look heavy, cakey, dull or matte, this is a warning sign.

Look for even stitching, there’s no room for a sloppy seamstress at Saint Laurent.

Can I get your number?

The Sac De Jour will have a number printed on a leather tag on the inside of the interior zipped pocket. Look up this number, and you should be able to find your bag. No results? Red flag alert!

Pay attention to type face- the Saint Laurent’s signature font has a disti

nctive look, and it’s rarely perfect on counterfeit designs. The typography should crisp, neat, straight, and elegantly spaced. Study the logo carefully and trust your gut with discrepancies.

Authentic Sac De JourStare down your hardware

The centre zipper pull on your Authentic Sac De Jour should have a slight bend to it. A sac de jour has leather straps on the sides of your bag that unsnap from the front to extend the accordion sides.

There will be SAINT LAURENT branding on one side of the centre zipper pull, the keys, and lock. If any of these elements are missing, seek a third party opinion.

Price

Of course, the most important aspect is price. Saint Laurent doesn’t have as high a resale value as heavy hitterslike Chanel and Hermes, but an Authentic Sac De Jour is still an investment piece. If you find one on the market for less than $1000, you’ve either just met someone who has no idea what their bag is worth, or counterfeit merchant. Spend wisely.

All purchases on bagreligion.com are guaranteed 100% authentic, so you can rest easy knowing your Sac De Jour has a clean background. Saintly, even.
